"I attempt to teach my students necessary technical skills in handling and applying oil painting materials so that they can use that skill to express their own personal emotions and imaging.  I may teach a person how to paint, but I cannot make him an oil painting artist.  He himself supplies that ingredient".
For over 20 years, Nancy A. Berkhouse has been in pursuit of the above proponents...acquiring skill and using it to express her personal response to beauty.  Her education at Waynesburg College in Western Pennsylvania provided her a teaching background, but the artistic bent "evolved" after a move to East Texas in 1960, through a life entrusted to God and a desire to portray His creation.  Because she has painted such a wide variety of subjects, Nancy has a rich wealth of experience in helping student painters accomplish their choices.  She has also successfully acquired skill in using different mediums and has experimented in various techniques and styles of paintings.  Pastels and acrylics are comfortable tools for her, but oil painting is for her "the most relaxing and controllable" of mediums.bb30.jpg (16569 bytes)
The paintings of Nancy Berkhouse reflect an expert knowledge of mixing colors, some soft and subtle, some vibrant, but always rich and harmonious.  Her style is traditional with an impressionistic flavoring.  The compositions are flowing and easily absorbed.  After spending many weeks in the Texas Hill Country she caught the fever of the area and the resulting landscapes are in demand by collectors and visitors to Texas.
Throughout the years the popularity of Nancy's works has grown.   Paintings have been purchased by art lovers all over the country and have won countless awards, ribbons, and honors.   Although the request for paintings by galleries and individuals is growing, teaching is still an important part of the artist's life.  She considers it a way to spread the joy she has come to know through art, and her students attest to her patience and adeptness as a teacher.

JOHN ANDERSON, represented by Gold Leaf Gallery, currently resides in the Tyler, Texas area. His reputation as a portrait artist is unsurpassed. His works of such notables as Frank Sinatra and Mrs. Billie Ruth Galef has verified the fact that he is a gifted painter. His early training included studies with John Howard Sanden, Daniel Greene, and three years with Dick Turner. Then he met the Hungarian master, Lajos Markos, and began an eight-year tenure as his protege.
Mr. Markos died in June of 1993, delegating Anderson to carry on his love of fine art: accepting no compromise; to teach and paint as few in this country can, using theory, theory, and more theory! "You must learn theory," said Mr. Markos, "Without it you can only go so high, but with it you can go as high as your talent can take you." Mr. Markos paintings hang in Museums throughout Europe and the United States.
Some of John Anderson's significant portraits include: Frank Sinatra, Buddy Hackett, Mrs. Vic Damone, Ken Davis, Oil & Gas Producer, Jay Haas, Golfer, Alan Brown, C.E.O. Simon Corp., and Dr. John M. Knox, Baylor College of Medicine.
Some of John Anderson's mentor, Mr. Markos' s significant portraits included such greats as: Gen. David Sarnoff, Cardinal Antonietti (Hanging in the Vatican), John Wayne, the Henry Ford Family, Pres. Ronald Regan, Pres. George Bush, and Robert Kennedy.
